| There are those who claim that Erik Hofland, aka dyzack, has made a comeback. They are wrong. After impressive performances, both in Holland and abroad, 3 studio albums, raving reviews and awards, it was time for a change. From 2005 to 2011 he was composing music for theatre, amongst others for theatre company Vis á Vis. The reason for the appearance of his new solo album, This mangy soul, is a bizarre and recurring dream. Dyzack is now approaching the age at which his father committed suicide. In his dream, as with most dreams, this subject gets a surreal twist: a medical procedure raises his father from the dead. However, confusion surmounts as he realizes nothing is what it used to be. This mangy soul is undoubtably dyzack's most intimate record so far. The album is a collection of songs about loss and existential fear hovering over humans. But that fear is never the main subject: above all this album is a consolation for our mangy souls. |
